Yell.com has unveiled a major redesign of its site, incorporating enhanced search and mapping features.

The new mapping features allow users to plot a selection of local information onto any chosen location within the UK. For instance, if you have searched for a shop, Yell will display near-by cashpoints and parking spots.

Yell's president Eddie Cheng said:

"Yell.com now provides important information over and above a simple business listing to deliver results full of insightful local data you might need when looking for a business. “

“These new enhancements are part of our programme of continuous development to combine richer content and intelligent search, meeting the growing expectations of Internet users."

Through the re-design, Yell users can view a variety of information, including local wi-fi hotspots and locations of speed cameras. In Central London, Yell also plans to add bustops, tube stations and taxi ranks, all of which can be cross-referenced against any chosen business listing.

Yell is also using Multimap rather than Google Maps to display its search results, and is the first UK site to bring all of this data together in one place.

The new search tool matches content contained within its advertiser’s websites to search queries, so a search for a product will bring up listings of local stores, as well as links to Pangora's shopping comparison service.

The site redesign is part of an ongoing programme of improvements planned by Yell.com. As well as the shopping channel, it recently added an international B2B industrial search site, and says it plans more vertical channels in the future.
