If you think that awe-inspiring parallax scrolling websites are the sole preserve of the coding genius, think again.

Highly interactive and narratively driven web pages are a fantastic way to engage visitors on your website and hold their attention. The pages themselves are static and rely on the user to scroll with a mouse, finger swipe or an arrow key to generate movement, this achieves a unique storytelling experience.

For some inspiring examples, check out Chris Lake’s 14 scrolling websites that tell a story and parallax scrolling websites are also one of our crucial web design trends of 2015.

Creating this type of page has become a lot easier thanks to HTML5, CSS3 and JQuery, and there are loads of templates now available for your own WordPress site.

The examples below are recommended based on the demo versions and the quality of the customer reviews. I haven’t installed or used them myself, I’m merely highlighting them as an example of what you can achieve with your own WordPress site.

In demo this is certainly one of the more impressive templates on offer and seems to offer great value for money.

You can choose between one-page or multi page versions, with the ability to make any element parallax and there are loads of different options for navigation and background styles.

This template features a full screen slideshow, contemporary flat design and the ability to use the full width of the page with massive images.

This one has an infinite scroll… you can just keep jabbering on forever here.

From an aesthetic point of view this one looks gorgeous. Smooth scrolling, flat design and huge background images.

The animation that follows your mouse while hovering over the image links is also particularly pleasing.

Vortex is a detailed, fully customisable flat template that gives you the choice between fullscreen image, slider or YouTube video for the header background.

Featuring all kinds of custom scrolling animations and the ability to make any element parallax.

A gorgeous theme that retains its images and animation when viewed on smaller devices. It also features ecommerce integration.

A one page, parallax and responsive template. There are a variety of dark and light layouts available, simple colourful animation and ecommerce pages available.

A very playful and charming template, with fantastic tiled design and smooth animation.

Parallax Pro

A simple and elegant vertical design, worth checking out for the mobile and desktop versions.

This template looks super smooth and feels incredibly fluid when scrolling.

An attractive, sophisticated template with super smooth animation.

Christopher thank you for consolidating these parallax wordpress templates here. They are a great way for marketers to create highly engaging website content. I have always been concerned about the single page design and its (potentially) detrimental impact on SEO. I found this article by Carla Dawson on the Moz Blog, that addresses these concerns.

Thank you again for the great round up.
