JD Sports is the best UK e-commerce site: study

JD Sports, M&S, Amazon and John Lewis are the e-commerce sites that other retailers need to look up to, according to an eDigital benchmark study. 

In the mystery shopper survey, which looks at the end to end user experience of 49 e-commerce sites in the UK, many of the sites performed well for areas such as search and navigation and the purchase process, but email customer service, as always, lowered the average scores.

Email isn't dying, it's just turning into social media glue

Bleak times ahead for email according to Gartner, which is predicting that social networks will claim a growing share of communication among business users.

Seems plausible enough, though any reports of the death of email are somewhat premature. But can social networking sites claim the communications crown before this decade is out?

Gartner says: “By 2014, social networking services will replace e-mail as the primary vehicle for interpersonal communications for 20 percent of business users.

Cue much head shaking among the email services providers at TFM&A this week. I asked a few of them to fight their corner, and to provide an alternative view on the future of email.

UK etailers could do more to maximise sales: study

While some of the the top UK e-commerce sites are doing the basics reasonably well, many are failing to add extra value by using things like video and editorial content to promote their products.

This is the verdict of a dotCommerce study released today, which has looked at the websites of 20 online retailers in the UK, and benchmarked them against 24 best practice guidelines.
