Store locator tools: which retailers offer the best mobile UX?

Store locator tools are hugely important for multichannel retailers, with their importance increasing due to the consumer shift to mobile and our reliance on digital maps for directions.

This was a point hammered home to me over the weekend when I was hopelessly wandering the streets of Catford trying to find a Tesco Superstore.

Store locator tools seem a very basic part of modern web design, yet clearly not all sites manage to get it right.

The importance of giving people useful, local information is further underlined by data published by Google.

It shows that 40% of mobile searches have local intent, while three out of four mobile searches trigger follow-up actions, whether that be further research, a store visit, a phone call, a purchase or word-of-mouth sharing.

With this in mind I’ve taken a look to see which brands have great mobile store locator tools, but first here's a look at a few features that need to be included.

Best Buy closes its UK stores

Last year, Best Buy came to the U.K., opening stores and a website, bestbuy.co.uk. The retailer, a household name in the U.S., hoped to make a big splash by introducing some competition across the pond.

Yet despite a promising start, the venture has likely lost over £100m to date and Best Buy's U.K. partner, Carphone Warehouse Group (CWG), is conducting a "strategy review" of the venture's operation.

This morning, the US retailer announced that it would be closing all eleven U.K. Best Buy stores.

When Twitter met Yammer

I have been exploring for a while to see if a link between our customer service agents on Yammer and our customers on Twitter exists. Is there a point at which the two platforms could come together in the provision of customer service?

Happily there is. It's a bit clunky but it works. And the answer is '#yam'.

Confessions of a corporate tweeter

Twitter

There are lots of articles about how brands should use Twitter. They all give good sound advice to the budding corporate tweeter: listen before you dive in, have something relevant to say, or learn from cases like Motrin or Skittles.

This is all very generic though, so let me try to give you my random insights and observations as @guy1067, a corporate tweeter for Carphone Warehouse.
