Online retailers start getting more social

59% of the 100 leading retailers currently have a fan page on Facebook, according to a study by interactive marketing agency Rosetta.

Originally conducted last April and updated in September, the study found 29 of the retailers surveyed added Facebook pages during that four month interim. And we're talking top brands in this consort:  Best Buy, Toys "R" Us, Kohl's, and Wal-Mart being just a few examples.

Report: 35% of US adults now use social networks

Social networks have come a long way since Friendster, MySpace and Facebook jump-started one of the hottest online trends in the past decade.

A new Pew Internet & American Life Project report indicates that social networks have made great inroads with adults in the United States but still are predominantly the domain of teenagers and young adults.

Two years ago, Cisco raised some eyebrows by purchasing two social networking companies - Five Across and Tribe.net.

The acquisitions were curious because Cisco is best known as a manufacturer of networking and telecommunications equipment.

eMarketer cuts social network ad spend projections

In what seems to be a frequent occurrence, research firm eMarketer has cut its estimates for ad spend on social networks.

In May, the firm estimated that spending on social network ads would reach $1.4bn. That number has been lowered to $1.2bn.
