While mobile is presenting some tough monetization challenges for companies like Facebook, it's increasingly looking like a boon to others.

Google, for instance, is seeing spending on mobile search ads skyrocket, and it's working hard to improve its mobile ad offerings. In many cases, its efforts appear to be showing signs of success.

Qype weeds out thousands of fake reviews

Qype has announced that it cut more than 2,000 fake reviews last month as it seeks to clean up its listings.

It said that around 3% of new reviews have been deleted since it declared war on unethical listings last year.

Qype improves its iPhone app

Qype, which claims to be the UK's largest local search and recommendation website, has just released an updated version of its mobile app, Radar, for iPhone users.

Like rival Yelp, Qype Radar provides local listings and reviews for mobile users, very useful when you're out and looking for somewhere local to eat, or for other local services.

Local listings and reviews websites should be well suited to the mobile internet, as the kind of information they offer can be incredibly useful when out and about and looking for somewhere to eat, or some local entertainment.

There are a few sites like Tipped, Yell.com which have dedicated mobile versions of their services, but two such websites have launched iPhone apps, which offer a richer experience than the standard mobile sites. I have been trying out two iPhone listings apps; Qype Radar and Yelp...
