Best Buy: iPhone app review

Major US retailer Best Buy is one company that has been taking mobile commerce seriously, and the mobile site was among the examples we used in our recent Mobile E-commerce Best Practice Guide

Best Buy also has a recently updated iPhone app, so I've been trying this out, and seeing how it compares to the mobile site...

Findaproperty.com: iPhone app review

Findaproperty.com released an iPhone app this week, bringing the property search engine to mobile users.

Rival Rightmove released an impressive app last year, so I've been comparing to the new Findaproperty app.

I've also been asking Findaproperty.com Product Manager Chris Boorman about the development of the new iPhone app...

App review: House of Fraser on iPhone

House of Fraser launched an iPhone app last week, which allows customers to search for gifts on their mobiles.

The GiftFinder app also allows users to buy direct from the app, I've been seeing how well this works...

Review: The Guardian's iPhone app

Having introduced a new mobile website earlier this year, The Guardian's iPhone app was released today.

The app, developed by 2ergo, is £2.39 to download, offers some useful features, such as offline browsing, and a customisable homepage. I've been trying it out this morning...

Mobile site review: Twitter

Though there are now plenty of third party apps for this, Twitter has just launched a new mobile version of its website, optimised for iPhone, Android and N60.

I did try to use the old version of the mobile Twitter site before switching to Tweetie and Tweetdeck, and it wasn't the best user experience, and it was difficult to keep a track of mentions and direct messages.

According to the Twitter blog, plenty of people are still accessing Twitter via mobile browsers. I've been trying it out...

App review: Toys R Us

Toy retailer Toys R Us has just released a new mobile website, as well as apps for both Blackberry and iPhones.

The new app is targeted for the US market at the moment, though UK users can download it from the App Store. I've been trying the Toys R Us Big Book app out...

App review: Yell.com for iPhone

Yell.com has just released a free iPhone app allowing users to search for local businesses in the UK.

There are already some pretty good apps available, such as Yelp and Qype Radar, that provide local listings, so I've been trying out the Yell.com app to see how it measures up...

App review: The Spectator for iPhone

Political magazine The Spectator has just launched an iPhone app with an interesting subscription model. Unlike recent apps released by other publishers such as FT.com and The Telegraph, The Spectator's version charges users 59p per week for access.

However, while the subscription model might be intriguing, and offers a glimpse of how publishers may make money from mobile apps, it fails to deliver on user experience...

Why I love Trendsmap.com (and you should too)

Earlier this week I came across a link to Trendsmap.com. On the surface, it's just another program that incorporates a function of Twitter into creating another service. But spend a few minutes with the site and you will quickly realise it is so much more.

Mobile app review: Flickr on iPhone

The Flickr iPhone app was released this week, with many of the features that are available on the main site,  browsing photos as well as uploading and tagging photos taken on the phone.

We use Flickr for hosting the photos used on this blog, and to upload iPhone screenshots I've had the option of uploading via email, or plugging the phone into the laptop and uploading this way, which can take some time.

I'm hoping that the app can make this process a little easier...

App review: Spotify on iPhone

The eagerly awaited Spotify app is now available for download for UK and European mobile users to download, for both Android and iPhone users.

The app allows you to sync playlists, stream music to your phone through a wi-fi connection, and best of all, to access playlists when you are offline.

I've been trying the new Spotify iPhone app out...
