Thetrainline.com introduces ticket sales on mobile

Rail ticket retailer Thetrainline will be allowing mobile users to buy train tickets on their phones from a range of apps due to be launched later this month.  

Thetrainline already has an iPhone app, and this will be updated with the new payment function, while apps are on the way for Nokia, Android, and Blackberry mobiles. Users will be able to buy tickets and collect from self service machines at stations.

Rail ticket retailer thetrainline has just released a new free iPhone app, which allows users to check UK train timetables and plan journeys.

With the only competition being the Rail Enquiries iPhone app, which retails at £4.99, then it could be a popular app. I've been taking a closer look...

Should e-commerce sites be offering rewards schemes?

I've been booking some train tickets through thetrainline.com, and aside from the steep £2.50 charge for using a credit card, I was disappointed to find myself on a pop-up page offering me a cashback voucher and other rewards. 

The offer comes from a company called Webloyalty under the name of Shoppersdiscounts, which has come in for flak before from customers who feel they have been duped, so should thetrainline and other e-commerce sites risk their reputations by using such schemes?
