Here are the best US digital marketing stats we’ve come across recently. 

76% of retail marketers say digital beats offline for ROI

More than three-quarters of senior retail marketers believe online marketing delivers better ROI than offline, according to a new report by RetailMeNot

Other key findings include:

  • 87% of senior marketers say they will increase their mobile budgets this year.
  • Only one in four believe they are getting the most out of mobile technology.
  • Almost half have not carried out marketing attribution studies. 

57% of Americans block ads

More than half (57%) of Americans currently use ad blockers on a desktop, and this figure rises significantly for younger people, according to a new poll by Retale. 

Other key findings include:

  • 63% of millennials use ad blockers on a desktop.
  • 20% of Americans use ad blockers on a mobile device.
  • 16% say they ‘want to’ use ad blockers on their mobile but aren’t sure if they can with their current device.  

The Revenant wins the Oscar for highest search volume

Okay, I might have just made that award up, but in the lead-up to the Academy Awards The Revenant received a healthy 36% share of total search volume out of all the best picture nominees, according to data from Hitwise, a division of Connexity. 

The second most searched movie, The Big Short, only had a 14% share by comparison.

Trump wins Super Tuesday on social

Republican front-runner Donald Trump not only fared well in the polls following Super Tuesday’s voting, but he was also by far the most prominent candidate on social media, according to new figures from Quintly.  

As you can see from the two charts below, both Trump’s Twitter followers and mentions have increased significantly over the course of the last few months, while closest rivals Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have seen theirs’ remain relatively stagnant.

73% of online shopping done via mobile

Almost three-quarters (73%) of global online shopping happens on a mobile device, according to new research by Connexity. 

Other key findings include:

  • 21% of consumers use their mobile device to assist an in-store shopping experience.
  • 63% use their mobile device to see if an item is in stock before visiting a store.
  • When in-store, 68% who shop with their mobile device search for better prices and money-saving coupons at competing stores.

A seamless in-store experience

64% of retailers consider themselves ‘advanced’ or ‘leading’ at providing an overall seamless shopping experience, according to a Forbes survey of retail executives. 

Other key findings include:

  • 44% say real and dynamic pricing is the most effective way to engage consumers.
  • 61% say customers will engage with personalized offers.
  • 57% say customers appreciate the efficiency and visibility of real-time pricing.

Subscription box sites have grown by almost 3,000%

Traffic to subscription box sites such as Graze has grown by almost 3,000% over the last three years, according to new figures from Hitwise, a division of Connexity.

There were more than 21.4m visits to US subscription box sites in January this year, up from just 722,000 for the same period in 2013.
