Digital Cream Dubai is part of Econsultancy’s international series of events to help brands, publishers and the hospitality industry in the Middle East region improve their online businesses.

It's a 'hands-on' participatory event: you will network and learn through specialist discussion, roundtables and debate. In addition there will be two inspiring keynote presentations during the day from leaders in the digital marketing industry.

 Roundtable Format

The topic-focused roundtable format allows you to discuss a number of subjects that are most relevant to you and find out from your peers how they are addressing the challenges and opportunities you are also facing. These typically include questions around best practice, measurement, ROI, resourcing, supplier selection, recruitment, business processes, budgeting, trends etc. 'Chatham house' rule applies.

Attendees will attend three roundtable sessions, of an hour and a quarter each. Each roundtable is moderated and focuses on a particular topic with the roundtable attendees proposing specific questions or challenges they wish to discuss on that topic in the time available. So the specific agenda for each topic roundtable will depend on the input of the delegates. N.B. We encourage employees from the same company to select different topics to improve your experience and the value you take from the event.

Ashley Friedlein, CEO, Econsultancy

Ashley is one of the most influential and connected figures in the UK digital marketing and e-commerce sector. As a recommendation for him on LinkedIn reads, “If Ashley doesn’t know it – it ain’t worth knowing.”

He writes for a range of publications and is the author of two best-selling books which have been translated internationally.  Ashley speaks worldwide at industry events, as well as making media appearances to promote both his own company, Econsultancy, and the interests of the sector in general.

He founded Econsultancy in 1999 with business partner Matthew O'Riordan.  This award-winning company now has over 98,000 members worldwide, opening its first US office in New York in January 2009, and now also operating in the Middle East and Far East.  Its members include the cream of international media, retail, cultural and financial service organisations, as well as government departments. Econsultancy helps its members learn, make better decisions, build business cases, find the best suppliers, accelerate their careers and lead the way in best practice via research reports, how-to guides, training and development, forums and professional networking.

After graduating in 1995 with a 1st Class degree from Cambridge University, Ashley started out working in digital TV. After a brief spell as Producer at, his career took him to digital communications agency Wheel (now LBi) where he rose to Lead Strategist and launched numerous multi-million pound websites for major brands like Marks & Spencer, Five, Argos, Autoglass etc.

 Following the dotcom crash he spent a pleasant year in the South of France writing the first of two best-selling books on web management (50,000 copies sold world-wide, translated into 4 languages). He is 38, married with two children.  In his spare time he enjoys photography, art collecting and a range of sports including skiing, walking, cycling and yoga. More recently he has taken up boxing, polo and poker.

Arto Joensuu is a digital change agent at Nokia. Together with his team of digital experts, he is redefining media and digital marketing inside the company. Throughout his career, Arto has held several leadership roles in the area of digital marketing and media, with work ranging from pioneering in mobile marketing at Terra Mobile, to crafting and executing digital marketing strategies for Nokia.

His work has been rewarded with several industry awards and for the last years, he has acted as a Nokia spokesperson on digital marketing and social media. Arto is currently based in Dubai, UAE and heads up the digital marketing activities for Nokia Middle East & Africa.

Zeid Nasser, is Managing Director of MediaScope and Founder of, the Middle East's first and largest online community of advertising and media professionals with over 10,000 members. MediaScope is a pioneering media marketing, publishing and event organizing company with business activities in Jordan and UAE.

Zeid is a well-known media and technology commentator, and a regular conference speaker and panelist who also served as Secretary General of IAA Jordan for four terms.

Caroline is a digital professional with over sixteen years experience in the industry. She has been working in the digital sector from its earliest days, originally working for a software company designing user-friendly interfaces in 1996, before the internet became mainstream. She has subsequently managed the launch of numerous websites for leading organisations in the UK's established online marketplace, including O2, BT, Zurich Financial Services, Daimler Chrysler and the British Government.

Experience of both the agency world and client-side projects has led her to be a great advocate of design, user experience, information architecture and SEO. As Head of Digital, she now manages the leading business news portal in the Middle East (, (part of Emap Ltd), where her responsibilities include all operations involved in the strategic and tactical management of the website and campaign management team.

Austyn Allison is editor of Communicate magazine, a Dubai-based publication that covers the North Africa and Middle East’s media, marketing and advertising industries. He has been with Communicate for four years, having come to the region to launch Xpress, a weekly tabloid newspaper published by Al Nisr media. Before arriving in the Middle East, Austyn worked as a sub-editor for newspapers and an independent publishing house in his native Scotland and in London.

Suzanne has worked as an online journalist and internet product developer since 1998, when she was one of the launch journalists on the Sky News website. Her specialities are launching and running publishing sites and managing subscription products. She has run five websites from pre-launch (including the original site for Gulf News' sister tabloid, XPRESS) and managed the relaunch of a further four, including and for Emap Middle East. She has lived in the GCC for 15 years, of which the last five years have been spent working in digital media in Dubai.
