Mercedez-Benz-owned Smart has launched an app to help people create personalised images for Facebook’s timeline pages, which rolled out globally yesterday.

The app lets people create a picture, either a mosaic-style image made up of their Facebook images or an infographic displaying key information about their Facebook activity, to use in the new banner image that the site has added to people’s profile pages.

Facebook yesterday rolled out a major change to users’ profile pages, switching to an interactive timeline format (nma.co.uk 15 December 2011). The social network first announced the timeline feature at its F8 developer conference in September.

Smart is one of the first brands to capitalise on this change, using it to promote the fact that its Smart Brabus tailormade service allows people to personalise the appearance of their cars.

David George, marketing director Mercedes-Benz UK, said, “We recognise the importance of social medial as a tool to engage with the smart audience and fans. It’s great to be able to reflect smart’s customisation service with a Facebook app that allows people to put their individual stamp on their profile”.

The app was created by digital agency Digital Annexe.
