Musical Concepts is a music events company that delivers open-air summer festivals across the UK, featuring classic singers like Natalie Cole and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. With music event management a hugely competitive space, you’d expect a dynamic website with a showcase of events, from Twitter feeds to YouTube videos, but showcasing of any kind here is limited to a series of generic images of concert crowds.

The branding and graphics, although erring on the classical side in line with Musical Concepts’ offer, are poor. Although simplicity of navigation is preferable to complexity, there’s so much potential content missing here. The sections comprise About, News, Sponsors & Sampling and Contact Us, but there are only three stories in the news section, and the headline links just take you back to the home page.

DSM-Design has missed several tricks in communicating the magic of festivals, in fact presenting the opposite. Music events, as Musical Concepts suggests, are all about the big idea. It’s just a shame the website hasn’t picked up on this.
