Hotels.com has launched its first mobile apps in the UK after its mobile website helped generate “triple-digit growth” in last-minute bookings.
The apps, launched for both the Android Market and Apple App Store, let users search and book more than 20,000 last-minute deals from over 135,000 hotels around the world.
They’re available in more than 30 languages, and also contain user reviews.
Christelle Chan, director of marketing at Hotels.com, said the typical booking window, or how far in advance people book a room, has halved by 50% since it launched its mobile website last year (nma 9 September 2010).
“The main difference we’re seeing from mobile users is their behaviour: they tend to want to book for that evening,” she said. “We’re also starting to see people use the mobile site during what was formerly ‘lost time’. Now people are booking rooms when they’re travelling, whereas they used to have to be in front of a computer.”
The apps are free to download and won’t initially contain any ads or sponsorship.
