Vodafone has launched a cross-network SMS donation service with JustGiving that lets people donate up to £10 via their mobile phone bill.

The service, called JustTextGiving by Vodafone, lets any charity or individual on any mobile network raise money using text messages as a donation mechanic.

Sponsors send the desired amount – either £1, £5 or £10 – to a shortcode powered by MIG through its cross-network mobile payments gateway.

Last week Comic Relief revealed that almost a fifth of this year’s donations (£15.17m) were sent via SMS during its most recent appeal (nma.co.uk 4 May 2011).

new media age recently revealed that mobile trade body AIME was lobbying operators to raise the value of mobile purchases that can be charged to a user’s bill to boost the sale of physical goods on mobile (nma 5 May 2011).
