Video views for Five’s on-demand service Demand Five increased by 25% in March to a record 6.4m, boosted by syndication deals, the broadcaster has revealed.

Lee Leborgne, digital sales manager at Five, said March was also its “biggest month ever” for advertising on Demand Five.

He said deals with YouTube and SeeSaw were a big reason for the spike, along with the strong content, including US drama FlashForward.

“Our syndication deals have started to pick up and YouTube is beginning to deliver,” he added. The news comes on the back of the broadcaster’s deal with InSkin Media, which will see interactive video ads rolled out across its Five Forward site.

The Flash-based interactive ads wrap around video, images, games or web pages and remain visible for the entire viewing duration. When a user clicks through, they’re taken through to the advertiser’s site which can contain video, images and Twitter and Facebook feeds.

The deal is the latest step in Five’s online strategy, a major part of which will be to push more of its video content onto other platforms.

Five has already partnered with YouTube, SeeSaw and Sony Bravia TVs, and is on the lookout for further syndication deals.
