Local People, Associated Northcliffe Digital’s network of hyperlocal sites, has launched an iPhone app to provide communities with news while on the move.

The free app aims to complement the 70 local websites published by the Daily Mail General Trust’s digital division by offering local news and information for towns including Bideford, Falmouth and Woking.

It lets users access information on restaurants, bars and hotels, services and shops. A Top Places Nearby feature allows users to search for popular attractions by area.

AND’s network of hyperlocal sites is aimed at communities of between 10,000 and 50,000 people. The sites encourage people to chat and write their own stories about local issues.

Roland Bryan, MD of Local People, said, “The launch of the iPhone app further extends the service and adds value to the overall offering. It’s also the first mobile app to deliver dedicated news and information to these communities.”
