Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed the social network has topped the 1bn active monthly user milestone with over half (600m) accessing their profiles via mobile devices.

The statistic was revealed in a blog post penned by Zuckerberg earlier today where he wrote: “This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month.

“I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.”

Further information released by Facebook revealed the social network reached the landmark on 14 September at 12.45pm PST and that the media age of Facebook’s audience is 22 years old.

Also revealed was the fact that there has been over 1.13 trillion Facebook ‘likes’ since the function was launched in February 2009 and that over 219bn photos have been uploaded on the social network, which also has over 17bn location-tagged posts, including check-ins.

More to follow.
