Pop band McFly has unveiled a mobile app to support the launch of its print autobiography ‘Unsaid Things: Our Story’.

The app features additional photos from the band’s personal collection and behind the scenes video footage from the cover shoot for the book, as well as a bonus track to enhance the book experience.

Users can also unlock other exclusive content by scanning the front and back covers using augmented reality app Aurasma.

Gavin Hilzbrich, head of digital marketing for Transworld Publishers, the book’s publisher, said, “The AR functionality was a key factor in enabling us to seamlessly combine traditional book publishing with digital technology… [it] has given us a valuable extension to our publishing programme.”

The app, which has been developed by mobile agency Nimbletank, is priced at £1.49, while the book has an RRP of £18.99.

Chris Minas, founder and managing director of Nimbletank, said, “This application is a great example of how the mobile channel working as a companion to other media channels can generate additional revenue’s and interest in non-mobile channels.

“The core demographic of McFly fans is highly digitally savvy, and mobile is becoming an increasingly important channel for publishers to bring to life a more immersive experience around the stories their books tell.”
