European start-up Tvtrip, which provides online video guides for travellers, has received $4.8m (£2.3m) in funding from Balderton Capital and Partech International.

Tvtrip was launched in May this year by a team which includes four former managers from Expedia. 

It is pretty similar to Trivop, another video guide for hotels that also launched recently. Both claim to be the first site to come up with the idea.

While at the moment, Trivop has listings for hotels in just London and Paris, Tvtrip covers 10 European cities. Both firms plan to expand their coverage, with Tvtrip aiming to have more than 1,500 hotels in 50 cities listed by the end of the year.

Users can search for hotels on Tvtrip by using Google Maps. Professionally produced videos of the hotels and rooms are displayed alongside information about the hotel.

Like Trivop, Tvtrip displays TripAdvisor reviews from people that have stayed at the hotel.

There isn’t much to choose between the two – both provide a useful service, though with an investment of £2.3m Tvtrip may be able to expand its reach more quickly.
