The Royal Society appoints Design UK to develop new publishing site
Content heavy website to be made more intuitive for use by multiple audiences

The Royal Society, the UK’s national academy of science, has appointed Digital agency Design UK to redevelop its publishing website.

Design UK will create the look and feel for the new website, to be launched in November, as well as re-organising its current information architecture. The site will be built using Design UK’s proprietary content management system, Lava. The Lava content management suite will allow easy updates and administration by Royal Society staff without the need to resort to HTML development. This will increase productivity and service to customers.

The Royal Society, which has been promoting scientific excellence since 1660, publishes 7 journals across a diverse range of subjects. The site manages a great deal of content on a daily basis, as well as coping with the diverse needs of authors, readers, referees and librarians. It was therefore especially important for the new site to have an elegant but simple interface that enables users to find information more quickly and easily.

Andrew Gibbins eServices Manager for Royal Society Publishing comments,”We chose Design UK because of its understanding of our problems and experience designing content rich sites for other scientific publishers such as Blackwell. The design solution that’s being developed will allow swift navigation through the new site”.

Andy Farmer, Business Development Director at Design UK adds, "We are delighted to be working with such a respected and important brand”.
