Lyris Technologies is to tackle the issue that over twenty percent of legitimate, permission-based commercial email is wrongly identified as spam. The email marketing company is hosting an industry awareness day offering practical advice and expert opinion to help users maximise the potential of their electronic marketing campaigns through ensuring messages reach their intended audience.

The keynote presentation will be given by Bill Thompson, new media pioneer and journalist for the Guardian, BBC Online and the World Service. He comments: “When legitimate emails don't get through it causes problems for everyone. I've used Lyris in different settings over the years, and appreciate the way they see the wider context in which their customers work. It would be too easy for them to treat inaccurate spam filtering as someone else's problem, but instead they are doing something about it.”

Roundtable discussions at the event will focus round the key factors identified by Lyris as influencing deliverability rates: authentication (ensuring that email comes from legitimate servers); reputation (reducing the number of recipients marking email as junk or spam); and personalisation (sending relevant, timely email that is of value to the recipient).

Real-life illustrations of effective email campaigns will be provided by Lyris customers: high-end audio equipment company Bowers & Wilkins; online social network pioneer Chinwag; email specialists CreatorMail; and prestigious online fashion store Net-a-Porter. Attendees will also have the opportunity to provide their own input to the debate via ‘voxpop’-style filmed contributions that will be posted on the Lyris website.
