Fast-growing digital services group, Red Eye International Ltd, has announced two major developments that strengthen its position as a leader in online marketing.

The company has acquired one of the UK’s leading usability companies, optimum.web, and appointed former Claritas MD, Mark Patron, as CEO to fuel its expansion programme.

The latest moves follow the acquisition of e-relationship marketing in 2005, the launch of a new search division in 2006, and 101% growth over the last 12 months.

The acquisition of optimum.web, whose clients include Bacardi, the DTI, the COI, and Abbey, will allow usability and accessibility services to be integrated into RedEye’s existing portfolio of web analytics, ad serving, search, affiliate management, web and campaign analysis, profiling and segmentation, data brokering, email and SMS marketing. RedEye’s clients include William Hill, Asda and the AA, and revenues will exceed £5m turnover this financial year making it one of the largest suppliers in the sector.

Optimum.web was one of the pioneers of website usability, based on the science of human-computer interaction, when it was established in 2000. Since then it has expanded its offer to cover user-centred design, IA development, online brand research and user needs analysis. Its managing director, Keith Simpson, will report into Mark Patron alongside existing RedEye managing director, Jonathan Kay, whose role is unchanged.

Patron will become CEO of RedEye from November 1, 2006. He was voted one of the UK's 15 most influential direct marketers by readers of Precision Marketing and has been a non-executive director of RedEye since 2004. Patron will lead the company’s ambitious organic growth and acquisition programme.

As managing director of Claritas, now part of Acxiom, Mark built the company over 14 years into the UK's leading lifestyle data business. He was a founder and Chairman of Abacus Europe, the data division of DoubleClick, and has held non-executive positions with Rocketscience, Spada and Transactis, and was part of management team that developed VNU’s marketing information business from $150 million revenues in 1994 to $2.5 billion by 2001. He will continue to be non-executive Chairman of AIM listed marketing services group Twenty PLC.

RedEye is backed by a number of private equity investors and institutions such as Springboard Ventures and Brewin Dolphin.
