B&Q appoints Tamar to manage SEO

B&Q looks to increase online sales of www.diy.com

B&Q, the UK’s largest home improvement and garden centre retailer, has appointed Tamar to improve the ranking of its website on search engines including Google and MSN. Search conversion agency Tamar will ensure the site, www.diy.com, has a good position when people search for home improvement products online. The appointment is part of B&Q’s increased focus on its multichannel offer.

Commenting on the appointment, Richard Wilson, Home Delivery Manager at B&Q says, ‘We have hired Tamar because of their expertise in natural search engine optimisation. They will work with our in-house website team to implement SEO techniques that will move the site higher up the search engine rankings.’

Neil McCarthy, Commercial Director of Tamar adds, ‘B&Q’s site has a huge range of products. Like many retailers managing the complexities of a large ecommerce site with merchandising tools, B&Q’s rankings are affected by dynamically-driven pages generating a lot of long and unreadable URLS, which search engines struggle to index. Tamar will work around this by developing an effective linking strategy and improving the crawlability of the content.’

Tamar is retained with immediate effect.
