Web Technology Group (WTG) has been acquired by WTG Holdings Limited, led by Bill Gore and Volker Schulze.

WTG, the web applications specialist, has grown significantly over the past six years and is currently ranked fourth in the New Media Age Top 100 Interactive Agencies list. The buy-out will enable WTG to grow its portfolio of blue-chip customers and to develop its application development, delivery and management capabilities.

WTG was acquired by Cable & Wireless (C&W) in December 2000, when it was known as Hyperlink Interactive. The business specialises in consultancy, build, integration and support services around web applications and has a portfolio of government and commercial customers. WTG will continue to enjoy exclusive partner status with C&W.

Under the terms of the deal, WTG will continue to provide services to C&W and its customers through a framework agreement and all of WTG’s employees will transfer to the new business.

Speaking about the acquisition, Volker Schulze, the new Group CEO, said: “From our first contact with the team, we were highly impressed by both WTG’s track record and its ability to help its customers integrate web applications into their overall IT infrastructure and business processes.

“This is an ambitious and highly motivated company and the web applications sector is currently seeing considerable growth. I am looking forward to WTG developing its services to help organisations improve their effectiveness and competitiveness.”
