Lyris increases sales at the new online Gadget Shop

The Gadget Shop (www.gadgetshop.com) has selected email marketing specialist Lyris UK (www.lyris.co.uk) to drive sales and reinforce brand awareness as it streamlines its operations to focus solely on its online business. The retailer's email campaigns now result in substantial increases in the number of products sold.

Hosted on The Gadget Shop's own servers, Lyris ListManager replaced a remote mail-sending service that did not provide the flexibility necessary to design creative communications and could not handle the continual management of data required to keep email distribution lists up-to-date and permission-based. Before purchase, ListManager underwent an extensive trial period to ensure that it met The Gadget Shop's requirements and was straightforward to manage. Since its initial installation in August 2006, ListManager has performed extensive cleansing of The Gadget Shop's database and handled the delivery of one million emails. Its robust reliability has ensured that there has been no need to restart the server during this time.

Richard Bewley, marketing manager at The Gadget Shop comments: “Our newly-aligned business hinges on driving traffic to the website, and an intelligent email service is the most cost-effective and efficient way to do that. However, as well as being robust and powerful, the system needed to be the right 'fit' for us, which included having the facility to be managed and controlled in-house. The combination of Lyris' technically superior products and the UK team's complete commitment to outstanding customer service leaves it with little competition.”

Working with Lyris, an expert on the industry problem of undelivered emails, The Gadget Shop has dramatically increased the number of communications that reach the inboxes of their intended recipients. ListManager also helps the business stay competitive in a crowded market by enabling it to produce creative and engaging emails.

Andrew Robinson, managing director at Lyris UK, says: “The Gadget Shop enters the online arena fortified by its 15-year heritage and resulting position as the original gadget retailer. However, it also recognises that in order to continue to engage its target audience as well as expand its customer base, it is critical to stay up-to-date with communication technology.”

Bewley concludes: “Lyris resolved our immediate business need and has also given us huge scope to make plans for increasingly sophisticated email marketing activity in the future.”

Founded in 1991, following its success on the high street, The Gadget Shop was acquired by the UK's leading independent toy retailer, The Entertainer, in 2005.
