The Construction Centre released today its assessment of online search trends for building and construction according to its website statistics for the first quarter of 2007. The construction Centre is one of the UK’s largest and busiest directories enabling industry professionals and consumers to find thousands of products and services in one central online location.

The Construction Centre highlighted the most popular search terms as paving and bricks which were likely to have been mainly used by the consumer market. This falls in line with the continued spend on home improvements during the first quarter, despite recent interest rate increases. Consumer purchasing trends usually rise for DIY projects during the spring in preparation for summer, culminating with spend peaking over the bank holiday weekends. Other popular terms were sited as kitchens, timber, fencing, decking and patio slabs which supports evidence for the ongoing public interest in home improvement projects.

The Construction Centre website has also seen a significant rise in searches for industry professionals, building merchants and tradesmen which would indicate that consumers are also outsourcing their building work.

A high percentage of users were also searching for companies by name and specific products, rather than generic terms. The Construction Centre said that this indicated that a high volume of industry professionals were using the website to source information and pricing for specifications.

Richard Simmons, Managing Director at The Construction Centre said “The first quarter of 2007 has already seen a dramatic increase in the number of people using the website which naturally reflects the ongoing industry boom. It has also been very interesting to interpret what people are searching for. We can usually tell by the type of search terms entered, whether visitors are knowledgeable about the products they are searching for and this gives us an indication as to whether they are consumers or professionals.”

He continued “We are constantly researching trends within the building industry and monitor search patterns within our website in order to keep the content relevant and continue to provide users with the high standard of service they now expect.”
