Speedy Camel pioneers Google Checkout

New media specialist big:interactive integrates payment mechanism into online barter store

London, 23 April 2007: Online barter store, www.speedycamel.co.uk is one of the first in the UK to go live with Google Checkout – the new online payment gateway from the global internet search company – launched today. The implementation has been led by big:interactive, and sees the interactive new media agency further increasing the payment options it has already built into the Speedy Camel store.

Google Checkout means customers only need to register their details with Google once, before being able to make simple, ‘one click’ payments via a network of online stores. The service is quick and secure with bank and credit card details anonymous to sellers. The service also largely eliminates the need to remember usernames and passwords or the need to register for every online store, and means users can view their purchase history, track orders and deliveries, and easily contact sellers from one web page.

The addition of Google Checkout is the latest in a series of innovations big:group has brought to Speedy Camel. The store uses innovative bartering logic to ‘negotiate’ a selling price with the buyer. Users haggle with ‘Ali Barter’, an animated merchant who will accept or reject buyers bids whilst modifying the price to reach a compromise settlement. The site endeavours to recreate the atmosphere and excitement of an ‘Arabian Bazaar’.

big:interactive developed the complex logic and algorithms behind the negotiating process, offering users an engaging shopping experience with the opportunity to make a bargain whilst providing sellers with a profitable and cost effective trading platform. Sellers trading via speedycamel.co.uk include Jessops, Halfords, My Travel and Beaverbrooks the Jewellers, along with a growing number of traders who offer more unusual & surprising products.

Matthew Sanderson, managing director at Speedy Camel comments: “big:interactive has been involved with every stage of our web development since our foundation and powers the underlying logic in the site which makes it such an engaging way to shop. It has completed the implementation of Google Checkout on time and to budget and has enabled Speedy Camel to be one of the early pioneers in offering this exciting and secure payment mechanism to our customers.”

Jolyon Hogarth-Scott, director at big:interactive, adds: “Trusted, easy-to-use and secure payment gateways are crucial to the continued growth of online shopping. Google Checkout is a welcome addition to the market since it’s not only simple to use but also highly secure and offers a quicker alternative to manually entering credit card numbers each time an online transaction is made, or to register on each sellers store.”
