Canon, world leader in digital imaging, has teamed up with Digital Video magazine and video streaming service,, to launch 60 Second Trailer, a national video-making competition. This unique competition, aimed at budding film-makers of all ages, challenges entrants to create a trailer that must be no longer than one minute in duration for a fictional film entitled ‘Anticipation’, with the chance to win Canon prizes worth over £14,000.

60 Second Trailer is designed to encourage innovation and creativity within film-making. This year, not only will there be the opportunity to win first, second and third prize, but there will also be a special award given for the best ‘Young Film Maker of the Year’, which recognises young talent.

“We are delighted to be supporting such an inspirational project. It’s great to know that we will be helping to give people a real head start in such a competitive business. Making a film trailer is an art form in itself and this competition gives people the chance to really explore their creative ability,” commented Alessandro Stanzani, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging UK & Ireland.

“This is a really exciting competition, and a fantastic opportunity for aspiring film-makers to showcase their potential – we are building on the success of last year, offering entrants a different challenge but for big rewards. It’s also exciting to know that we could be potentially contributing to a career in the film making business,” explains Jamie Ewbank, Deputy Editor of Digital Video.

Thanks to competition sponsor Mydeo, applicants will be able to submit their trailers online. The best entries will then be streamed from the site.

“Showcasing the entries online will give competition entrants a global stage for their work and an opportunity to get their video-making talents spotted,” states Cary Marsh, CEO of Mydeo.

Finalists will be invited to attend the award ceremony at a central London venue. Entries can be uploaded online at, or alternatively, submitted on tape or disc (VHS, mini DV or non-copy protected DVD) to the Digital Video office at the following address:

Digital Video Future Publishing 2 Balcombe Street London NW1 6NW

Entries must be received by midday on 30 June, 2007.
