Directgov Mobile won the Mobile Technology Award at the Good Communications Awards 2007 earlier this week.

The award scheme recognises and promotes effective communication in the public sector.

Directgov – the government website that provides access to public services online – launched a mobile version of its site earlier this year. Making the site available via mobile phones was part of the mission to develop Directgov as a source of public information, all in one place.

Cimex was responsible for the design and development of this service. In addition, the agency also manages the Young People’s Franchise area of the site and recently developed a 3G version of the site.

The site is available via internet-enabled mobile phones and offers local information, including council contact details, information on careers and learning and details of UK online centres.

“We are pleased to provide the technology that improves access to so many public services,” said David Hockin: Corporate Director: Cimex. “To see our efforts endorsed by the Good Communications Awards scheme is very rewarding.”

The Directgov website now attracts more than 4 million visits a month.
