In the spirit of innovation and enterprise that has become a trademark of the contemporary art establishment, Phillips de Pury & Company have launched www.phillipsartexpert.com.

Digital Communications agency Lateral, who specialise in helping companies engage with online consumers and prosumers in the most effective way, created and built this arts community site.

“This stand-alone site, completely separate from the core brand, capitalizes on the growing public interest in art and design and the desire to collect. Its aim is to engage and educate the user in the nomenclature of the auction process, enhance their knowledge of art and above all, allow the user to hone in on his or her taste and collecting passion. “Said Simon de Pury, Chairman of Phillips de Pury & Company.

Phillipsartexpert.com is driven by user-based content. The site is centered on an arts blog, pop-up information on artworks entitled In The Know and a games gallery. There is also a video glossary of basic auction terms featuring the international auctioneer and art specialist, Simon de Pury. The video footage assets were shot by NYC based Glow Interactive.

At launch, the content will centre on threads, which include an essential reading list of titles for the art expert’s library, a diary of the must-see exhibitions around the world, and the pretty young things of the art scene. The blog will also feature a free classifieds board where individuals and businesses can post announcements, offers and contact information. If a hotel, for example, has spare rooms in the run-up to the Basel Art Fair or if a gallery is looking for a receptionist with a PhD in Gallery Management, users will be able to post classifieds for free on phillipsartexpert.com and tap into an unrivalled art network.

In the Know allows users to gather knowledge about a particular piece that has been offered in the Saturday@Phillips sales. Images will be posted of works of design, contemporary art and photographs and the user will be able to click on the piece at various points to reveal factual information and the ‘backstory’ relevant to the piece.

A registered user can add his/her own pop-up information on provenance, process, historical facts and any facts relevant to the piece.

The Games Gallery, hosted by Simon de Pury is in development and the first two games will launch in July. There will be an art quiz and the auction top ten. Two additional games, Name That Brushstroke and Build Your Own Collection are being constructed and will launch in September.

Registered users will be able to play the games and earn points. Scores will be drawn on a monthly basis and a grand-prize winner drawn every 6 months will be awarded a Business Class ticket to New York or London from anywhere in the world plus accommodation to attend a Phillips de Pury & Company evening sale.

Phillipsartexpert.com will be global in reach and aims to invite the un-initiated as well as the seasoned art enthusiast to participate.
