Speedo® has appointed Design UK as its new digital agency. The appointment is announced at a crucial time for the iconic swimwear brand as it prepares for its 80th anniversary.

Design UK’s brief encompasses three key elements: the global brand site, e-commerce and community website, with the objective of each area working seamlessly together.

Online shoppers will be encouraged to interact and engage with a diverse range of content and useful functionality in the community areas while swimmers, more likely to associate Speedo® with high performance kit, will discover the fashion and lifestyle side of Speedo®.

Tracy Solomons, Head of Digital at Speedo®, said: “Digital is a key focus for our business – we need to ensure our online presence is a true reflection of the brand. Given Design UK’s experience and expertise in this area, we believe they will be a great asset, providing us with the tools and assistance that we need to provide a consistent global presence that is representative of the brand.”

The agency will be looking to marry the rational side of online shopping with the emotional aspect, creating a balance between an effective and functional site with an engaging online presence. Their aim is to add value to the brand promise for consumers.

We strongly believe that Design UK will help us achieve this goal by creating online communities that will develop strong links to the brand and enable consumers to buy our product on-line.”

2008 is not only Speedo®’s 80th but as the year of the Beijing Olympics – is also a significant for the world’s best swimwear brand as it looks to showcase its products and leverage its sponsorship of the world’s top athletes. The appointment of Design UK now is a key element of the extensive programme currently underway in preparation for next year.
