Following a four-way pitch this week, Soup has won the brief to design an entirely new site for leading children’s publisher Ladybird.

Ladybird has been at the forefront of children's publishing for over 60 years and forms the cornerstone of many people’s childhood memories. The site’s new design will reflect Ladybird’s new direction for its publishing; a modern, contemporary parent-friendly approach that has the child at the heart of it.

Steven Bennett-Day, Creative Director at Soup commented: “Pretty much everyone I know grew up with Ladybird and to have the opportunity to work with Ladybird on moving such a great brand forward online is something which we're very excited about. Soup took a really wide view of the brief and went back to Ladybird with a range of ideas that will truly involve consumers in a brand they really care about.”

The new site is set for launch in early 2008. It will include functionality that ensures book recommendations are intelligent and based on specific user activity and interests. Parents, teachers and carers will be invited to contribute to forums and reviews while kids are encouraged to illustrate their thoughts. "In redesigning the site, we aim to provide a fresh and simple experience for today’s parents and teachers. People come to our site to buy books, so we need to make that process as straightforward as possible, whilst providing relevant, reliable information and advice. We want to talk directly to our users, understand their needs and respond to those. In the same way that these needs and concerns are constantly evolving, so too must our site,” comments Joanna Galvin, Online Marketing Editor, Ladybird Books.
