Global advertising festival attendance boosted via email marketing

Cannes Lions (, the largest advertising festival in the world, used ListManager from email marketing specialist Lyris UK ( to help drive registrations for the event, which recorded its highest ever attendance in 2007. Following this success, Emap-owned Cannes Lions will deploy Lyris to encourage participation in its online award show, EurobestLive ( and delegate attendance to the first Dubai International Advertising Festival (

The 54th festival, held in Cannes in June hosted 9000 registered delegates from 85 countries. The event celebrates the best creativity across the media mix, with advertisements from around the world being showcased and judged.

Lyris ListManager was selected as a powerful, dynamic and cost-effective tool that enables Cannes Lions to reach and manage all contacts on its database in-house. The overall objective is to increase attendance at the show. Email is used initially to encourage delegate registration and then to promote entries to its prestigious awards. Follow up details, such as information about the seminars available to attend during the event and how to book a place on the workshops, are also emailed.

Hosted on Cannes Lions' servers, Lyris ListManager replaced the original outsourced email service, which no longer provided the organisation with the speed it required to communicate with its growing subscriber base. Cannes Lions also recognised that, in order to continually tailor its emails and expand its database, it needed detailed information on open, click-through and purchase rates.

Cannes Lions is currently focusing on using Lyris ListManager as part of its promotional campaign for online award show EurobestLive, which recognises and rewards innovation and excellence in European advertising, and takes place on 30 November this year.
