- Leads multi-million pound funding of Mobile Tornado International -

New media entrepreneur, John Swingewood, will head up the investment consortium providing multi-million pound funding for communication technology company, Mobile Tornado International. Specialists in ‘push-to-talk’ wireless applications, Mobile Tornado International will be at the 3GSM World Congress 2004 in Cannes, Stand K13 (Hall 4).

Founded in Israel in 1999, Mobile Tornado International has offices in Europe, Asia and the USA. The current funding round will be used to strengthen the company’s management, marketing, distribution and research and development functions, as well as expand its geographical reach.

Swingewood, who will also take on the role of chairman at Mobile Tornado International, says: "Globally there are currently over 1.5 billion mobile phone users – and their expectations develop as rapidly as the technology that can accommodate these demands. Mobile Tornado International’s technical advantages will ensure that consumers in Europe and Asia have access to ‘walkie talkie’ style communications as well as exciting multimedia services. ‘Walkie talkie’ has already proved hugely popular as an alternative to standard voice calls in the US."

Swingewood was formerly head of new media at BSkyB and before that was director of BT's internet and multimedia division.

Confirms Swingewood: "The provision of mobile-phone services will experience exponential growth in the next few years. The investment consortium has invested in Mobile Tornado International to enable the company to commercially exploit its patented IPR and its proven, scaleable, next generation Push to Talk technology that combines the immediacy of P2C (Push to Connect) with integrated voice and multi media messaging."

Notes to editors:

Mobile Tornado develops integrated voice and data solutions that are accelerating the deployment of data services over current wireless networks and devices.
While the entire mobile industry waits for next generation services to be deployed, Mobile Tornado is leveraging the transition from 2G to 2.5-3G to provide groundbreaking solutions for existing devices and networks. Now more than ever, carriers need new revenue-generating applications that run on today's interim standards and require little or no investment in new equipment.

Mobile Tornado's solutions are allowing the immediate delivery of advanced services over existing infrastructures. The company's core technologies are transforming existing mobile communications from providing limited, separate voice and data functionality, to powerful, ubiquitous systems capable of delivering multiple mobile services simultaneously. The flagship IPRS™ (IP Radio Service) technology enables instantaneous two-way radio communication with unlimited international and roaming capabilities over 2.5-3G networks. An additional product, the MT Platform™, enables integrating voice into existing mobile Internet applications.
