In preparation for Kids Week 2004, the Society of London Theatre has upgraded the children’s section of their website, using Swebtec’s enterprise content management system, expressCMS.
The Society of London Theatre is the trade association, which represents the producers, theatre owners and managers of the major commercial and grant-aided theatres in central London. The website has a section dedicated to children’s activities and theatre shows. The new sub site (which has already received the highest rating in a review in Web User magazine), created by the Society’s marketing team, enables visitors to the site to be kept informed of the special events taking place during Kids Week 2004, which runs this year from the 20th August to the 3rd September.
ExpressCMS is a fully featured enterprise Content Management System (CMS) designed to make the management of corporate websites quick, easy and cost-effective. It operates on all open platforms and delivers comprehensive facilities including dynamic addition of content on to pages and a range of powerful objects for displaying the content.
The Society of London Theatre also wanted to be able to maintain, update and extend their website without having to enlist the services of their IT partners. The Builder module within expressCMS allowed them to develop the Kids Week section by using a number of tools within the module. The pre-configured templates and interactive site map offered a simple solution to the creation of site pages and expanded the depth of the content layout, increasing the amount of information able to be stored within each section. Swebtec also provided a comprehensive training programme that allowed the Society’s employees sufficient knowledge and understanding of the product in order to ensure ease of use.
Speaking of Swebtec’s enterprise content management system, Richard Embray, Head of Publications at the Society of London Theatre said:
“We were very aware of the need to expand the children’s section of the website, in preparation for Kids Week 2004. With all of the exciting events taking place, it was of paramount importance that we should be able to keep visitors to the site informed of the shows and activities taking place over that period.”
“Having worked with expressCMS over the past few years, we had every confidence that the system would fully support our requirements to be able to extend our web portal, easily and cost effectively, without additional IT spend. We are confident that visitors to the site will be impressed and pleasantly surprised by the appearance and its innovative tools available to them. We are constantly updating the activities on offer to children for Kids Week and are sure that this year will be even more successful than before.”
Jamie Kruger, joint Managing Director of Swebtec said:
“We started working with the Society of London Theatre in 2002 and then re-launched their web portal using expressCMS in 2003, which resulted in a doubling of number of people accessing the portal. One of the major benefits of expressCMS is that it is powerful, yet simple enough for non-technical staff to use. This is a big advantage for organisations that do not have large IT departments or budgets. The new Kids Week sub site developed by the Society themselves is proof of this.”
