Triple Award Success at the North East's Digital Awards

Innovative Newcastle based newmedia company Indigo Multimedia have beaten off strong competition in the regions Digital Awards and scooped wins in three categories. With over 130 businesses short-listed for awards this triple success is a great achievement for Indigo, who picked up more awards than any other nominee on the evening. The shortlist was drawn up from entries who received the most votes via the Digital Awards website, with the final winners being chosen by a handpicked panel of expert judges from across the region.

The North East Regional Portal, e-business champions were behind the awards, which were divided into three categories, Digital Users, Digital Suppliers and Digital Innovators. Indigo picked up wins for 'Best youth enterprise website' with www.help4teens.co.uk, designed and developed for Connexions County Durham. A website with a number of innovative features, including a virtual library, which allows users to choose a character, physically walk around and browse the bookshelves. The virtual library is dynamically linked to Connexions Library Information Centre where staff can regularly update and add new content.

This degree of user participation and involvement in the design, look and feel of a site is typical of the hands-on approach Indigo give clients when developing online solutions aimed at encouraging young people to explore guidance information in a fun way. Help4Teens really strengthened Indigo's relationship with the Connexions Service across the UK and to date they have provided web development, video and CDROM based projects for a number of Connexions Services including Cambridge, Nottingham, Derby and Leicester.

In fact Indigo's second award of the evening was for the 'Best example of an accessibility' project' with www.4us.org.uk a website designed with disability in mind for Connexions Cambridgeshire. The 4us website was the first of its kind for Connexions and is specifically aimed at reaching young people with learning disabilities and tailored to meet the needs of an audience with different levels of cognitive skills. The website accessibility conforms to the highest international levels of accessibility - W3C Triple A (AAA) and demonstrates Indigos understanding in the design of functional and accessible websites that provide maximum ease of use.

Speaking of the awards ceremony Andy Graney, Web Director from Indigo said "It was a fantastic evening and great not only for us but also for the region; it's good to be recognised and celebrate all things digital. We are elated to win three awards and pleased that another of our websites entered by the client themselves won with voluntaryskills.com."
A sentiment echoed by John Adams, Video Director at Indigo whose project for UK Sport; www.100percentme.co.uk won the 'Best use of online film and video' category. "As a North East based company we are delighted to be involved in such a high profile national and international campaign for a client such as UK Sport. We feel the digital communications industry in the North East has really come of age and these awards are an opportunity to highlight and celebrate those achievements. We find that a lot of clients from the South now look towards companies such as ours for digital solutions based on value for money and quality of service."

Since its launch 18 months ago the 100%ME campaign has made a massive impact in the way information on drug-free sport is accessed and disseminated. Indigo have produced hard hitting DVD's aimed at driving home the drug-free sport message to elite athletes, as well as winning recognition for their clever use of video content on the website at the NE Digital Awards. The site itself features endorsements from many of the UK's top athletes including Paul Collingwood, Tanni Grey Thompson and Paula Radcliffe.

The NE Digital Awards seem set to go from strength to strength, with the 2008/9 campaign due for launch this summer, giving local companies the opportunity to firmly establish the North East as a vibrant hub for digital development.
