Online health tourism guide Treatment Abroad implements ratings and reviews from Bazaarvoice to increase patient knowledge of overseas healthcare inform patient choice.

Treatment Abroad, the most visited health tourism site in Europe for patients seeking cost-effective treatment overseas, has appointed social commerce technology provider Bazaarvoice to implement its ratings and reviews platform. The service will enable patients to share experiences of medical tourism agencies, hospitals, clinics and dental practices abroad.

TreatmentAbroad.com offers information and advice about cost-effective surgery and healthcare in over thirty countries. The site already invites its 70,000 monthly visitors to read stories from patients who have undergone surgery or dental treatment after using Treatment Abroad. It will now encourage patients to add ratings and reviews of individual hospitals, clinics and medical tourism agencies.

“The reviews service is intended to inform patient choice,” said Keith Pollard, Managing Director of Treatment Abroad. “Patients need to be clued up on overseas medical treatment, and some may be apprehensive about the risks of travelling for treatment. Patients who have become ‘medical tourists’ generally tend to be extremely positive about their experience, so the addition of ratings and reviews on the site will further build patient confidence.”

Treatment Abroad is one of a family of medical websites owned by Intuition Communication. They include Private Healthcare UK, the Harley Street Guide, Cancer Advice and Self Help UK.

The reviews platform is likely to be rolled out across the portfolio of sites.

A recent UK study from Bazaarvoice and global analyst firm Jupiter Research which looked at the use of user generated content online, found that 97% of consumers are willing to trust online reviews.
