Leeds-based digital agency, AWA, is supporting ASDA in helping the sporting stars of tomorrow get active this summer, through the ASDA Sporting Chance scheme.

ASDA Sporting Chance aims to link young people across the UK with free sporting sessions throughout the summer holidays. To take advantage of the sessions on offer ASDA customers can pick up free vouchers from their local store and redeem these when they book activities.

AWA designed and developed the scheme’s website – www.asda-sportingchance.co.uk – which is a key element of the Sporting Chance marketing campaign.

From the site users can search a database of over 100,000 sessions being offered by almost 300 providers throughout the UK. This database is constantly growing and being updated to ensure users receive the best choice and most up to date information about activities near them.

The scheme, which is running all summer long, encourages young people to take part in an activity which they enjoy, or to try something new completely free of charge. A wide range of sports are on offer and each session is run by qualified coaches.

The website also contains details of the partners that ASDA is working with on the scheme, as well as highlighting the support they are offering promising young UK athletes. Working with the sports charity, Sports Aid, each ASDA store has ‘adopted’ two promising athletes who will receive grants towards their sporting development and also benefit from in-store fundraising activity.

Lara Wantenaar, Project Manager for ASDA in the Community, is delighted with the site and AWA’s involvement on the project: “We are very proud of the ASDA Sporting Chance initiative as it further enhances our commitment both to our local communities and to the education of an active lifestyle for all young people.

AWA has been fantastically supportive throughout the Sporting Chance website project – from initial design discussions to implementation and beyond – and we found the whole team to be friendly, approachable and knowledgeable.

The Sporting Chance site – which retains key branding elements from ASDA.com, whilst clearly positioning Sporting Chance as a stand-alone project – has been extremely well received by users.“
