The Association of Online Publishers (AOP) today reveals the shortlist of winners in its Online Publishing Awards 2008. The highest number of shortlisted entries went to three publishers: Reed Business Information with 12; IPC Media with 9; and Guardian Media Group with 8.

Channel 4, the Financial Times, Hearst Digital/The National Magazine Company, Incisive Media, the Sun all received 5 shortlisted entries each.

In recognition of the growing investment by companies into audience research and understanding consumer behaviour across a number of digital platforms – the AOP included two new categories this year “Research & Insights Project” and “Mobile Site”.

Ruth Brownlee, Director of AOP said, “This year’s shortlist shows that digital publishing is as vibrant as ever! We’ve had a record number of entries again from a really broad range of companies – broadcasting, B2B, consumer magazines and newspapers. It’s enormously encouraging to see such fantastic work being produced across all disciplines of the industry such as design, commercial, editorial and technology. This shortlist is reflective of publishers who’ve managed to combine an innovative use of content with real commercial success. Our awards aim to showcase, reward and celebrate this level of excellence in digital publishing.”

The highly anticipated winners of the AOP Awards, now in its seventh year, will be announced at a gala dinner, on 1 October 2008, at the London Hilton, Park Lane.
