boxedup (, the UK-based internet shopping tool, has today announced the completion of its first round of angel investment and the appointment of its new board director, Toby Smallpiece.

Toby has joined the co-founders, Chris Osborne and Jeremy Baines to make up the boxedup board of directors. Following his investment, Toby will be specifically responsible for product monetisation and will also help to develop the site’s distribution activity, including partnerships with retailers, amongst others.

Toby’s background includes founding one of the first and largest Search Engine Marketing companies in the UK, Webgravity (founded 1999 and acquired by IBNet plc in 2001). He then went on to become CEO of AIM listed IBNet plc, which was later acquired by Deal Group Media plc.

Chris Osborne, co-founder and CEO of boxedup comments, “We’re pleased to have quickly closed this round of investment given the current climate. We knew from initial conversations with Toby that there was a shared passion for what we’re trying to achieve; creating an indispensable web-based tool, whilst providing an engaging and useful social experience around shopping and the things that people are looking to get.”

“Toby’s investment and involvement will enable us to further develop boxedup, both from a product and monetisation perspective. We think that shopping on the web is fragmented and disjointed and by building on all our shared expertise, we can ensure is in line to change this,” adds Chris.

Toby explains, “I have been looking at UK internet opportunities for some time and it seems clear to me that the social shopping/listing arena is set to be a huge growth area, both in terms of general awareness, but more importantly in terms of revenue per user. I am thrilled to have found boxedup at just the right time and am excited about joining what is clearly a talented team. Watch this space.”
