The Association of Online Publishers (AOP) today announces the appointment of Tim Faircliff, General Manager of Consumer Media at Thomson Reuters, as the new AOP co-Chair to take up the role from March 2009 until March 2010, working with current co-Chair Alison Reay, who was appointed in October 2008.

The co-Chair appointments, held jointly and announced at the AOP Summit in October last year, reduces the previously mandated two-year tenure to one year, with a seven month overlap. The joint chairmanship allows greater rotation in the role of representatives drawn from newspapers, magazines, broadcasters and online only players, to truly reflect AOP’s diverse membership of the publishing industry.

Tim Faircliff leads the sales, marketing and development of Thomson Reuters’ multimedia news and information products available on digital media platforms including, mobile applications, and internet delivered television. Tim joined Reuters in 2005 from the Telegraph Media Group, where he worked for seven years in a number of digital media roles, most recently as general manager of, managing all programming, development and marketing aspects of the site.

Alison Reay, AOP Chairman and Digital & Multi-Media Director Telegraph Media Group said, “I’m looking forward to working with Tim this year as we look to deliver AOP’s strategic objectives around industry events, networking forums and research insights; during what is no doubt going to be a formidable year for UK digital publishers.”

Alison joined the Telegraph Media Group in 2007, having previously worked as Managing Director at Titan Outdoor; and at Yahoo!

Tim Faircliff, incoming AOP co-Chair added, “Reuters has long supported AOP’s focused and varied efforts on behalf of online publishing. It is truly an honour to be appointed as co-Chair of such an impactful organisation, at such a crucial time for our industry.”

Simon Waldman, Director of Digital Publishing Guardian Newspapers Ltd was the Chairman of AOP since 2006, has now formally stepped down from the role.

Alison concluded, “It’s been fantastic working with Simon, and on behalf of AOP, I’d like to thank him for his unswerving work, tenacity and enthusiasm for the association.”
