The Xbox Avatars are part of the Xbox experience, bringing a customisable and friendly face to the console. The “Free Your Avatar” image creation toolkit, produced by Digital Outlook, will enable gamers to share their personalised Avatars online.

Xbox Avatars allow gamers to graphically represent themselves on Xbox LIVE; they’re all about self-expression and fun. Now users will be able to take their Avatars to a new environment (beyond the console) and use their customised creations on popular social networking sites or share with friends in other digital formats.

The new toolkit allows users to expand on the self-expression the existing Avatars currently offer. Users can customise images to represent themselves and then export them for use on the likes of Facebook, Bebo and MySpace. In addition, the final image creation can also be made into a themed e-card e.g., Birthday, Christmas, Valentine’s, Friendship, etc.

Ben Janaway, Account Director for Digital Outlook said,
“By using fans of the new Avatars as peer-to-peer brand ambassadors, the 'Free Your Avatar' toolkit presents Xbox with a unique opportunity to spread their messaging to a fresh audience”.

The newly launched "Free Your Avatar" toolkit has a number of innovative image customisation options:

o Users can add different backgrounds from a new library of images including birthday, seasonal, music, beach, sports and more.
o The ability for users to upload their own background images into the toolkit.
o In addition to the backgrounds, users can now also add "goodies" to their images; various props related to the different background themes.
o A customisable text tool to overlay personal messages onto the image.

Graeme Boyd, Community Manager at Xbox said,
"'Free Your Avatar' has been extremely popular and we're receiving massive global interest in the toolkit. It allows us to take the Avatars out to a wider audience and represents a step towards educating consumers further on what is at the heart of Xbox – having fun and interacting with your friends and family".

Existing key features of the toolkit include:

o Add your own Xbox LIVE Avatar by entering your Gamertag.
o Add your Xbox friends into the images by adding their Gamertag too.
o In the interests of catering for people who aren't already on LIVE, you can choose from a library of pre-rendered Avatars.
o Users can resize and reorder all elements with the image.

"Free Your Avatar" will be available as a fully localised tool in 6 different languages.

The tool has now been adopted by Xbox in 12 different countries.

Editors Notes:
The Xbox Avatars were launched on the console in November last year as part of the new Xbox experience (essentially upgraded console software and user interface) with the aim of bringing a customisable and friendly face to the console.
