Modem Media London Wins EPICA Awards
Fading Animals and Talking Foetus Raise Awareness in Online Ads

LONDON --Dec. 9, 2004--Modem Media London, a Digitas Inc. company (Nasdaq: DTAS), has won two honors in the 18th annual Epica Awards advertising competition for two dramatic, emotional interactive ad campaigns for two U.K.-based charities.

The top Epica Award (gold) for online ads was awarded to Modem Media for the “Disappearing” ads produced for U.K. non-profit Care for the Wild International. Modem Media also won a bronze award in the online film category for an ad for FAS Aware.

The “Disappearing” campaign promoted awareness of the plight of endangered species with hard-hitting online ads which themselves disappeared from the sites on which they appear, unless users click on the ad directing them to the Care for the Wild International web site. One ad featured a black and white photograph of a chimpanzee with text that read, “I’m slipping away. You’ll never see me again.” The text, photo and then the ad itself gradually faded out. A tiger and rhino were also featured in separate ads.

The bronze award-winning interactive film was produced for the charity FAS Aware to raise awareness of the problems of foetal alcohol syndrome. The film was created using real video footage of a scan of an unborn child. The unborn child then speaks about the problems it encounters as a result of its mother drinking during pregnancy.

Judged by European advertising trade press, the Epica awards encourages the highest standard of creativity in European advertising and helps agencies, production houses and photographers to develop their reputations across the continent. Entries are judged on the basis of originality of the creative idea and the quality of the execution. The 2004 awards ceremony will be held in Budapest on January 21, 2005.
