As long time supporters of the web community in Cardiff, where one of thier offices is located, Box UK ( is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the inaugural Ignite London ( ).

Ignite is a revolutionary event format that was started in Seattle in 2006 by Brady Forrest of O’Reilly Radar and Bre Pettis of Make Magazine. Since then, hundreds of five minute talks have been given across the world including Portland, Sydney and New York City – but surprisingly, until now, there have been none in London. The idea is simple: presenters are required to stick to a rigid format of 20 slides, each of which changes automatically after 15 seconds, ensuring that each presentation is exactly five minutes long. The format forces presenters to think long and hard about every slide.

The first Ignite London, which was co-organised by Box UK’s Head of Marketing, Amy Thibodeau and Technical Director, Dan Zambonini, was be held on 18 November, 2009 at Ginglik in Shepherd’s Bush, London. Nearly 20 speakers gave talks, including representatives from Wired UK, the BBC and O’Reilly and a capacity crowd of 200 people were in attendance.

“I helped organise the first Ignite event in the UK through a group I co-founded called Cardiff Web Scene,” said Dan Zambonini. “I enjoyed the event so much that, after re-locating to London, I thought that this was the perfect city to hold an Ignite – it’s swarming with creative energy and people with great ideas to share. We’ve had an amazing response with a really engaged audience.”

In addition to the presenting sponsor, Box UK, Ignite London is supported by Ginglik ( and non-monetary promotional sponsors, the BBC ( and O’Reilly ( ).

People who did not attend the event, can follow along by reading the hundreds of Tweets about the event tagged to #igniteLDN. Within the next week, Ignite London will also post videos of the talks and pictures from the event. Visit for more information.
