Digital agency Essence ( has been awarded the highly coveted Revolution Special Award for Innovation for its development of Google Exports Advisor ( The winning work saw Essence develop the gadget site as part of a collaboration between Google and government agency UK Trade and Investment to help UK businesses export their products. The judges commended the neat functionality of the work as a great example of brand utility and excellent value for users.

Launched in August 2009, the Google Exports Advisor is a teaser gadget designed to engage visitors to the Export Advisor site. The initiative uses Google data to enable UK businesses to evaluate export opportunities for products without the need for marketing or analytical expertise. The work exceeded targets by 120 per cent, achieving 22,000 unique users in its first three months and has been used to calculate over 12,000 market opportunities.

The award is further recognition of the agency’s ongoing commitment to innovation, having already won ‘Most Innovative Digital Agency’ award at the eConsultancy Innovation Awards 2009.

Andrew Shebbeare from Essence comments: “As a business we strive to put innovation at the heart of what we deliver to our clients and it’s fantastic to be recognised for this.
