Southampton SEO Agency Impact Media Ltd has signed up to the CO2 Neutral Website initiative, helping to improve the company’s green credentials.

With environmental issues increasingly coming to the forefront of most industries consciousness, businesses are having to do more to reduce their carbon footprint. For Hampshire-based SEO Company Impact Media Ltd, this meant signing up for the CO2 Neutral Website programme.

The hosting of a website requires energy, and therefore generates CO2 as a consequence. The amount created is usually proportional to the activity on the site. So whilst Google generates huge volumes each year, sites with a lower traffic flow produce far less. Regardless though, Impact Media chose to take action with their own carbon output.

The CO2 Neutral Website initiative encourages all sites to offset their emissions by investing in green technologies. Whether that’s renewable energies or forestry conservation, businesses can pay a fee to ensure that they’re doing their bit. With hundreds already signed up, little by little the environmental impact of hosting websites is being reduced.

Discussing the reasons behind Impact Media’s decision to sign up to the initiative, Impact Media’s Managing Director, Ben Norman said “We’re acutely aware of the need to be more proactive in our efforts to minimise the impact our business has on the environment. We host a website that generates a high level of traffic, which invariably has to also create a certain level of CO2. So when I heard out about the CO2 Neutral Website programme it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do something about it.”

Mr Norman continued “Whilst our contribution may only be very small, we are very happy to be fully certified and hold the CO2 neutral logo on our site. Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in the hurly burly of running a busy SEO agency; however, it is vitally important that we, along with many others, ensure that we take a little time to deal with our wider responsibilities.”
