London based digital agency the Other Media (www.othermedia.com) has shunned traditional recruitment methods and used twitter to find their new non-executive director, Daren Forsyth.

Daren who was founder of Fernhart New Media and former director of innovation and new media at the Media Trust, a BBC attachment, will assist the Board in delivering the strategic objectives that have been set for the next 18 months, including; business development, future technology trends, and bringing innovation to the market. Managing director George Crabb explained why they turned to Twitter for their search, “All of the board members at the Other Media have worked in the industry for many years and we’ve watched other agencies recruit non-execs from within their immediate circle of contacts. This seems strange to us since a non-executive director shouldn’t just be experienced but should also offer a totally fresh perspective on the business. By using Twitter we opened up our options to a much wider and more varied pool and we were also able to get a real feel for the personality of the candidate.”

As well as being a vocal participant in the digital marketplace, Daren is also the founder of 140 Characters, a strategic communications consultancy, and the chief marketing officer for TAG International Development, a UK start-up charity that works in developing countries to provide medical assistance and wider social support. He is @darenbbc on twitter.

Commenting on his appointment Daren said, “the OTHER media are one of only a handful of successful digital agencies that have been around for many years yet are still fiercely independent and thriving without outside investment. I’m delighted to be joining the team and helping them meet, and exceed, their goals during what is shaping up to be an exciting time ahead.”
