Digital agency Essence (www.essence.co.uk) has finalised the redevelopment of two Cancer Research UK websites. The Give in Celebration (http://giveincelebration.cancerresearchuk.org/) and Donate in Memory (http://donateinmemory.cancerresearchuk.org) sites have both been redesigned in a bid to improve income generation and the on-site experience for current and potential Cancer Research UK supporters.

Give in Celebration and Donate in Memory have been redeveloped with the same goal; allowing visitors to actively engage with and support Cancer Research UK. Give in Celebration is designed for those that wish to mark an occasion by creating a fundraising page to encourage family and friend donations as opposed to or as well as receiving more traditional gifts. Donate in Memory gives those that have lost a loved one the chance to set up a fundraising page in that person’s memory.

The websites have been built on Essence’s own proprietary content management system (CMS) Fig™. The modern and robust CMS provides Cancer Research UK with flexibility in terms of maintenance and management and is geared to help it reach its future growth targets for the sites.

Both websites allow users to customise their fundraising pages by uploading photos, embedding Flickr photo streams or YouTube videos, choose custom page themes and add personal messages. Essence has also integrated Give in Celebration and Donate in Memory with Facebook, allowing supporters to send their friends on Facebook requests to visit their fundraising page. Encouraging maximum impact, the refreshed sites also features personalised printable materials such as donation forms and cards to help fundraisers promote their page within their local community.

Emma Gilbert, Head of Marketing for Fundraising Products at Cancer Research UK comments: “‘The redevelopments represent our efforts to provide our supporters with website formats that respond to their changing needs. We were confident Essence would devise engaging sites that improved the user experience for both existing and prospective supporters.”

Richard Mooney, Head of Design & Build at Essence, adds: “Cancer Research UK came to us with a challenge – to redevelop two sites to ensure an intuitive and user friendly fascia that met the expectations of the charity’s supporters. Having worked with the charity on previous projects we have a strong understanding of supporters’ needs, and as a result we were able to develop two individual offerings that are modern and engaging, personalised and above all interactive.”
