Digital agency Essence ( has chosen Mark Nancarrow, former chief executive of Egg, as its chief financial officer. The appointment comes as part of a wider management restructuring at the award winning agency, designed to support its significant growth and ongoing ambitions.

Joseph Leon has been with Essence since its inception, and will assume the managing director role in London, building a senior team comprised of both internal and external appointments. Leon’s role covers Essence’s presence across EMEA, involving work in more than 30 countries.

The new appointments and management structure take effect immediately.

Mark Nancarrow, chief financial officer comments:

“My decision to return to the agency world was an easy one. Having had direct client side experience of the professionalism offered by the founding team as Matt's client at Egg, I have continued to be hugely impressed by Essence and the impact it has had on the UK and international agency scene. While other organisations in this space struggle to embrace the changing landscape, Essence has grabbed the opportunities that are present to create an agency model that is new, innovative, dynamic, and most importantly one which is structured around the evolving needs of its clients.
“At its core Essence understands data management, via both its technical ability and through its skill at prioritising the application of vast amounts of data available to organisations. The agency’s use of analytics, enabling the most informed marketing decisions, combines with this data understanding to deliver exactly what clients want; optimisation of marketing budget. Starting the process from the client’s point of view the Essence team is able to deliver a truly client centric approach, which, when matched with the drive and ambition of the agency’s team, make it an exciting organisation to be part of.”

Matt Isaacs, chief executive officer comments:

“The first five years of the agency have seen monumental growth, so in order to successfully manage our future ambitions, now is the right time for us to bring in additional support, and create a new structure to the group’s management. Because of his wealth of experience Mark’s support and guidance will be especially important to us. And I’m delighted that Joseph and Richard will be taking the helm in London and New York respectively; their ongoing and unwavering support from the start of our journey has been a core component of our success to date.”
