Code helps FirstTransPennine Express lead the way and become the first train operator in UK to launch a GPS Enabled Mobile Website.

First TransPennine Express (FTPE) is the first train operator in the country to have launched a GPS enabled mobile website accessible from all smart technology mobile devices. The site and GPS enhancement has been developed by Manchester digital marketing agency Code Computerlove.

Customers can now visit www.tpexpress.co.uk while on the move and plan their journeys, find out real time departure and arrival information and details about service disruptions.

The latest special offers are also available on the mobile site and customers can find out all about the stations and destinations they are visiting including how to connect onto other forms of public transport.

Commenting on the mobile site development, FTPE’s E-Commerce Manager Vickie Tennant said;
“The mobile site really is a great source of information for our customers. It is updated in real time and fits with the need to have travel information at your fingertips. We are the first train company to use GPS technology in this way and I hope that the advancement will help customers plan their journeys in a better and easier way.”

FTPE’s unique Live Departures and Arrivals board has been GPS enhanced and provides customers with a selection of close by stations to choose from or allows passengers to manually type in their station of interest.

The Live Departures and Arrivals board will also direct customers to the correct platform at the station saving time and meaning all the information needed is at the fingers tips of those travelling.

The non GPS enabled mobile site has been available since August last year and has attracted over 115,000 visits and with the new GPS enhancement this week it is hoped than more customers than ever before can benefit from this smarter technology.

The site, which has been designed with speed and accessibility in mind automatically recognises the mobile device trying to access it and optimises itself accordingly, works across WIFI, 3GS and normal data networks.

Code Computerlove have worked with FTPE on a number of projects that have enhanced the customer experience.

Account Director, Ian Rabagliati said;
”If you’re out and about and want to find your nearest station the FTPE mobile site will now find it for you! FTPE is the first UK Rail company to integrate GPS into a mobile website and continues to embrace new technology to enhance its customer experience.

“Almost 10% of all traffic to the website is now from mobiles and this is growing daily, as customers realise the ease of accessing the site on the go. This is also delivering improved conversion on ticket sales.”

Code has also created a mobile site for the market leader in made-to-measure blinds Hillary’s (http://m.hillarys.co.uk).

Susan White from Hillary’s said: “The web drives an ever growing number of appointments for our business and traffic to our site is also increasing around 13% per annum, so our continued investment in our digital marketing is business critical.

“Ahead of launching the new mobile site around 5% of traffic was from mobile devices, equating to thousands of customers, and we expect to see this rise now we have a site designed to cater for touch screen mobile phones. Mobile technologies are an exciting opportunity for us to continue to drive growth through new channels.”

She added: “The mobile site emulates the core user journeys of the main website driving visitors to either make an appointment or request a brochure. As the website is a single website shown in two different ways it is also easy for us to keep both sites updated with one set of changes.”
